Check out the latest development from the folks at Artspace, the non-profit group responsible for the Rubber Company lofts, and four other artist locales in the city.
Artspace Commons, as it’s dubbed, is currently under construction and located on 800 South at 423 West. This area is like the new Brooklyn, with a Salt Lake twist. Some well established, local favorite businesses include City Pet Club (where real dog people take their dogs during the workday) and the wonderfully eclectic C.G. Sparks furniture warehouse, not to mention the host of design firms and boutique agencies setting up shop in what were once old rail yards and industrial buildings. This is so urban.
The Commons will be open for residency in spring of 2010. It will feature “solar photovoltaic cells, solar thermal hot water and many green and energy-saving features,” according to Artspace. There are 102 residential units slated, with commercial spots available for studios, galleries, nonprofit offices and retail shops.
Currently there is a wait list for leasing at Artspace Commons. We’d like to know if anyone has a confirmed booking. And does anyone know which retail establishments are planning to move in?
