Mayor Becker has given his final recommendation for the future site of the public safety complex. The site, known as the Barnes Banking block, sits directly east of the Main Library between 400 S and 500 S. The complex will cost an estimated $125 million, and could be completed as soon as 2012.

After being vacant for nearly 18 months, the former Tony Caputo's Market/Deli on the corner of 314 West and 300 South is being remodeled to house the incoming Veloce Deli. Almost two years after crews broke ground on 222 Main, it's nearing completion. According to the developer, Hamilton Partners, it will open its doors in November of this year. 222 Main is Utah's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified "Silver" energy-rated class A office building. The aptly-named tower at 222 S. Main Street is 22-stories tall and a total of 459,000 square feet. The impressive structure was designed by architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, the firm that designed Sears Tower in Chicago and Freedom Tower which is being erected where the World Trade Center once stood. The mostly bare land on the east and west sides of 300 W, between 500 and 600 N was purchased by HOWA Capital from the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake (RDA) back in 2006. You may remember the signs displaying "Live at Marmalade" posted along 300 W.
