If there’s any residential building in Salt Lake City that deserves a doorman, it’s the Belvedere. This New York-esque building at 29 S State Street was built in 1919 by the LDS Church as a luxury apartment-hotel for church guests and visiting dignitaries. In 1979, the Belvedere became one of the city’s first apartment-to-condo conversions. It stands eight floors above State Street directly across from the new City Creek Center, and next door to the new OC Tanner flagship store in the renovated Salt Lake Public Library building. There are a total of 137 units in the building with a wide range in sizes. Most, however, are smaller units between 336 and 740 square feet. Because the condos have been occupied for so many years, each varies drastically in condition and finish quality. Heating is centrally located, and is paid by the home owners association. There is no central air conditioning, so most condos are cooled using windows a/c units. Most condos do not have in-unit laundry, but coin-operated laundry facilities are available on each floor.
